Bodhan city is located along the Godavari and Pedda Vaagu River banks in Nizamabad district of Telangana. It is located at a distance of 21 km away from the district Headquarters Nizamabad and 205 km away from the state capital Hyderabad. The city was once called as “Boodhan” which is a Prakrit name that means “Land given to poor as alms”. The city is also called as “Eka Chakrapuram”.

History of Bodhan
Bodhan was an ancient and a historic city is Telangana. As per Anguttara Nikaya a Buddhist text Bodhan was one of the 16 Mahajanapadas in sixth century BC and it the only Mahajanapadas that is sited between the Rivers Godavari and Manjira to the south of Vindhya Range and it belonged to Assaka region in Dakshinapatha. The city is elevated at a height of 357 meters above sea level which is 1171 feet and it got its coordinates at 18.67° North latitude and 77.9° East longitude. Bodhan is bounded by Yedapalle Mandal in the East, Kotgiri Mandal in the west, Varni Mandal in the South and Renjal Mandal in the North. Nizam Sugar Factory in Bodhan
The Nizam sugar factory is a very popular landmark in the city which was established in the year 1921. The factory was started by the then Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan in about 15000 acres of plot in Shankar Nagar locality of Bodhan. It was once Asia’s largest sugar factory but currently it is closed permanently and was stated as sick unit. The Shankar Nagar railway station is sited very close to the sugar factory.
